Amazon UK takes delivery of 5 DAF CF Electric trucks

DAF delivers five CF Electric trucks to Amazon UK.

Amazon UK has taken delivery of five DAF CF Electric tractors with the 37-tonne GCW fully electric vehicles joining the firm’s middle mile delivery fleet

Not only will Amazon UK be transporting goods with zero tailpipe emissions, but the CF Electric trucks are the first electric middle mile trucks that Amazon is operating in Europe.

The vehicles mark an important milestone towards the electrification of Amazon’s fleet, forming part of Shipment Zero – which is the firm’s goal to deliver 50% of their shipments with net-zero carbon by 2030.

The five vehicles replace diesel trucks, resulting in up to 100,000 annual road miles fuelled with renewable electricity, preventing about 170 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted.

‘Put electric heavy goods trucks on the road’

Amazon UK country manager, John Boumphrey, said: “Amazon is one of the first companies in the world to put electric heavy goods trucks on the road.

“We’re committed to becoming net-zero carbon by 2040, and this is a milestone as we continue to decarbonise our transportation network so we can deliver more customer orders using zero emissions vehicles.”

Eelco van Veen, DAF Trucks’ director of fleet sales, said: “We are excited to bring the DAF CF Electric into Amazon’s fleet and support their commitment to The Climate Pledge.

“The DAF CF Electric truck represents an important step in the industry towards zero emission middle mile distribution.”

‘Better air quality and lower CO2 emissions’

He added: “It has been developed in response to rising demand for better air quality and lower CO2 emissions in the transportation sector.

“Thanks to smart planning and fast charging, the CF Electric can clock up to 500 kilometres per day. That is a figure operators really can work with.”

The DAF CF Electric is available as a 4×2 tractor – GCW: 37 tonnes – and a 6×2 rigid truck – GVW: 28 tonnes – with steered trailing axle for maximum manoeuvrability.

The 210 kW (240 kW peak power) electric motor draws its power from a 350 kWh battery pack with charging taking about 75 minutes using a charging station with a capacity of 250 kW.

Global TRP store of the year is in Hemel Hempstead

Meanwhile, TRP, which is the PACCAR Parts’ exclusive worldwide brand of aftermarket replacement parts for trucks, has revealed its global store of the year.

And it is TRP Hemel in Hemel Hempstead which has won the accolade above 248 stores in 39 countries around the world.

The HTC Group opened TRP Hemel in April 2013 as the UK’s first TRP store.

The store utilises the full TRP product offering and works closely with DAF in the UK to develop the best line of products on the market.

HTC Group director of aftersales, Peter Gibbons, said: “This award is a tremendous honour for TRP Hemel and a wonderful recognition of our hardworking and dedicated staff.

“We take pride in delivering outstanding quality and value to all of our customers.”
