A Swedish start-up hoping to shake up the trucking industry with electric trucks has chosen the UK to build its prototype vehicle.
Volta battery-powered vehicles are designed for urban deliveries, with a capacity of up to 18 tonnes, a top speed of 50mph and a 100-mile range. Its lower cab means the driver has better vision on crowded streets.
Volta believes it has an advantage over other more established truck makers as it does not have established factories set up to produce traditional engines.
The company’s decision to build in the UK goes against that of Elon Musk, who recently announced plans to build his next ‘gigafactory’ in Germany.
