Drivers not offered eye care by employers

New research has revealed that just 38% of employers currently offer eye care to drivers.

The survey by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, which questioned more than 500 heads of UK companies, found that 62% did not provide eye care plans for employees who drive for work. And this has raised the question: are these companies putting their employees and company reputation at risk?

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), driving is the most dangerous work activity someone can do. The stats back up that claim. Every year in the UK, more than 500 people are killed, 5,000 seriously injured and almost 40,000 slightly injured in collisions involving drivers or riders who are on the road for work.

Some people wrongly assume it is the responsibility of individuals to ensure their eyesight is good enough to drive. However, employers share that responsibility with their staff when someone is required to drive for work.
