Haulier Tom Moorhouse and Son take 12 new DAF XF’s

A West Yorkshire haulage firm has just taken delivery of 12 DAF XF 530 FTG Super Space tractor units.

A haulage firm established in 1887 has taken delivery of 12 new DAF XF 530 FTG Super Space tractor units.

The new trucks have been delivered by DAF dealership Motus Commercials Huddersfield to Tom Moorhouse and Son Ltd.

The general haulage and warehousing business based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, is currently managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the Moorhouse family.

Josie Galloway, the firm’s finance director, said: “We’ve always had DAF’s on the fleet and as a family business we prefer to work with local partners and support other British businesses.

“We have worked with Motus Commercials Huddersfield for many years for both the supply and aftersales of our vehicles; their extended opening hours mean they’re able to offer flexibility and reduce our downtime. With DAF Trucks built in Britain too, it’s a winning combination.”

Reason to purchase DAF’s

She added: “Our trucks are workhorses and the backbone of our business, therefore reliability and positive feedback from our drivers is important, which is another reason why we continue to purchase DAF’s.”

The new DAF XF’s enter service alongside a majority DAF fleet and have all been fitted with ‘luxury air seats’ for both the driver and co-driver, an ‘xtra comfort mattress’, TruckPhone, microwave and fridge to ensure maximum comfort and usability for the drivers – with some of them being on their cab five nights a week.

DAF Connect has also been installed to allow Tom Moorhouse and Son to monitor their fleet’s performance including vehicle health, fuel reports, remote tacho download and ECO scorecard to promote more environmentally friendly driving behaviour.

In addition, to help keep vulnerable road users safe, the 12 vehicles have been specified with a forward-facing camera, driver side blind spot camera, four channel recorder and rear ultrasonic sensors, as part of the London Direct Vision Standard (LDVS).

‘Improvement in the average MPG’

Ms Galloway said: “Overall, we are very impressed by the improvement in the average MPG and our drivers have commented that the comfort and driveability of the vehicles are second to none.”

Bob Stringer, the head of new truck sales at Motus Commercials, said: “It’s always a pleasure to supply Tom Moorhouse and Son Ltd with their vehicles which we have been fortunate enough to have done for many years, building a strong working relationship during this time.

“Their trucks have always been head-turners out on the road, and these new DAF XF’s are no exception. We wish the family business all the best and here’s to the next 134 years!”

New Generation DAF XF 450 FTP

Meanwhile, leading bulk haulage firm, Roger Warnes Transport Ltd, has welcomed a New Generation DAF XF 450 FTP mid-lift into its predominantly DAF-based fleet.

The Norfolk-based operator is one of a number of haulage firms across Europe involved in the extensive New Generation DAF field test programme, in order to deliver the very highest standards of reliability, quality and performance from the start of series production.

The firm’s operations director, Ian Barclay, said: “The arrival of the New Generation DAF XF has captured the imagination of our drivers.

“It’s a stunning looking truck, with exceptional comfort and space for drivers. Our own drivers are absolutely over-the-moon with it.”
