To help support its continued expansion, logistics specialist Knowles Transport has boosted its fleet with 50 Volvo FH460 Turbo Compound trucks.
That is the largest single order of any vehicle in the Cambridgeshire-based company’s history.
The fleet investment has been made to meet the growing demand for the firm’s services and as part of their fleet replacement programme.
They say that 33 of the 50 Volvo trucks they have ordered, will be replacement vehicles.
The remaining 17 have been bought to help deal with growing customer demand.
‘Largest ever single order of vehicles’
The firm’s managing director, Alex Knowles, said: “This is the second order we have placed for the Volvo FH460 Compound vehicles and as the largest ever single order of vehicles in the company’s history, it is encouraging.
“Not only does this substantial investment demonstrate the strength of the business in the marketplace, but also to our commitment to growth and sustainability to our customers in the ambient food space.”
He added: “Our investment in the new vehicles also once again further extends our long-term relationship with Volvo who have provided us with expertly manufactured state of the art vehicles that will allow us to cater to the increased demand for our services whilst continuing to minimise environmental impact.”
The new vehicles are equipped with Volvo’s ‘I-Save’ technology which incorporates Volvo’s turbo compound engine with the latest fuel-saving package to bring class-leading fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.
The company’s new livery will also be featured on all their new trucks which will also be fitted with forward and side-facing cameras for increased safety.
Five-year vehicle replacement policy
Knowles Transport operates on a five-year vehicle replacement policy and all of the new vehicles have been purchased alongside a full five-year repair and maintenance contract with Volvo Truck and Bus in Ely.
The order for the new trucks also follows the firm’s recent announcement of buying 85 trailers from leading trailer manufacturer Lawrence David to help meet demand.
The new trailers comprise a mix of replacements for existing trailers, plus new additions to supplement Knowles’ growing fleet.
Lawrence David has delivered to the haulage firm their pillarless curtainsider that will be finished with Knowles’ new distinctive branding.
Built to a premium component specification, the curtainsiders feature a rear roof air diffuser, flush rear doors for functionality and aesthetics, full LED lighting and a premium load securing system.
Mr Knowles said: “Our strong relationship with Lawrence David, which has been developed over many years, is a testament to their strong product offering.
“We are excited to be unveiling our new livery on the new trailers, which follows the purchase of the 50 new Volvo FH460 Turbo Compound vehicles to support our continued expansion and recent diversification.”
Lawrence David’s national business development manager, Ben McEvoy, said: “We are delighted to provide 85 pillarless curtainsider trailers to Knowles to support their ever-growing fleet.
“We have built and supplied a variety of trailers and rigid bodies to meet Knowles’ direct requirements over the years where we have worked together on a variety of innovations to support the business.”
