Meachers adds seven DAF trucks to fleet

Meachers invests in its future with expanded fleet of trucks.

Meachers Global Logistics has expanded its fleet with seven new specialist vehicles as part of a £1.5million investment programme designed to offer a wider range of services to its customers.

The Southampton-based international freight and transport logistics company has replaced vehicles at its Nursling headquarters with five DAF XG tractor units and a further two DAF CF 26T tail lift rigids.

The vehicles have been acquired for its Palletways base in Fair Oak.

More fleet replacements will be brought in over the next 12 months in all depots, liveried in the Meachers’ yellow and red branding that has been used for the past 60 years.

Investment is expected to be more than £1.5 million

The total investment in new vehicles is expected to be more than £1.5 million and includes a comprehensive trailer replacement scheme.

The haulier says that the new vehicles will be the highest specification, fitted with the latest camera technology – in-line with the London direct vision permits.

Meachers’ fleet director, Jamie Terris, said: “Meachers is thrilled to be investing for the future with this brand-new fleet of specialist vehicles which will bring a wider range of services to our customers.

“The investment programme will make the Meachers brand more prominent over the entire business and allow for even more growth in the future.”

Gary Edmondson, the territory manager at vehicle suppliers Adams Morey in Southampton, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Meachers Global Logistics on supplying the latest batch of vehicles, which includes five new DAF XGs, part of the New Generation DAF range, a truly game-changing vehicle which sets new standards for driver comfort, safety and efficiency.

“We’d like to thank the team at Meachers for continuing to choose Adams Morey and the DAF product, and we wish them all the very best with the new vehicles.”

Sterling Furniture signs up for 12 new DAF rigids

Meanwhile, Sterling Furniture has signed a six-year, full-service contract hire agreement with Fraikin for 12 new DAF rigid trucks.

And each one has been fitted with a full suite of connected technologies from Fraikin’s partner, Samsara.

The deal continues a relationship that dates back to the mid-1990s and includes nine 7.5-tonne DAF LFs and three 12-tonne LFs, all featuring Luton bodies.

Each truck represents a like-for-like replacement for older assets previously supplied by Fraikin and will join a 28-strong commercial vehicle fleet delivering furniture in Scotland and North East England.

Craig Wilson, the head of distribution at Sterling Furniture, said: “Contract hiring our trucks brings huge benefits to the business.

‘Fraikin delivers a proactive approach’

“We have consistent control of our costs, while Fraikin delivers a proactive approach to maintenance and servicing that works around our operational timetable, enabling us to maximise fleet uptime and efficiency.”

Built by Tekbo, the bodywork on all 12 trucks is specifically designed for transporting furniture, with strong webbing, straps and cushioning to protect the load.

They have also been specified with a folding tailgate for easy walk-on, walk-off access when loading and unloading.
