The Mercedes Actros L truck has been unveiled and it’s the most luxurious and largest production model yet.
The new vehicle joins the Actros family which was launched in 2018.
Trucking firms will find improved refinement and comfort levels, plus a much larger cab.
The variants – StreamSpace, BigSpace and GigaSpace – have a 2.5-metre wide cab along with a flat floor and improved noise insulation.
Boosting convenience and driver comfort
Mercedes is also boosting convenience and driver comfort with a new door trim, seat covers and a tactile cab rear panel for the bed area.
There’s also a comfortable mattress fitted with a 45mm thick topper.
The new Actros L also has a driver’s seating position that has been lowered by 40mm to deliver a more comfortable view of the road ahead and a relaxed driving experience.
The new Mercedes Actros L truck has a conventional diesel powertrain and can be ordered from 1 July with the first models scheduled to be produced from November.
The Actros L also features a range of safety assistance systems including proximity control assist and lane-keeping assist.
The model also features the firm’s ‘MirrorCam’ which replaces the wide-angle and main mirrors.
Second-generation of Active Drive Assist
There’s also the firm’s second-generation of Active Drive Assist as an option but this is only available for the 6×2 and 4×2 tractor units.
Fitted as standard for the Mercedes Actros L is ‘Active Brake Assist 5’ that has a pedestrian recognition function, plus there is ‘Sideguard Assist’ which will support the driver when they are turning left or changing lanes when visibility may be restricted in busy environments.
Mercedes is also adding an emergency stop assist which will carry out an emergency stop if the driver does not respond to audio and visual warnings.
The truck will then come to a standstill and the new electronic parking brake will be automatically engaged.
This system will also unlock the cab doors so that any first responders including paramedics can gain access to the cab should the driver need medical assistance.
Mercedes Actros L has been popular
The Mercedes Actros L has been a popular tractor unit since it was unveiled in 1996 for heavy-duty distribution and long-distance haulage sectors.
And since 2018, the model has set new milestones for the sector with various innovations, including safety and digitalisation.
These include the multimedia cockpit, enhanced safety systems and partially automated driving functions.
The limited-edition Actros Edition 2 was unveiled earlier this year, and now the Actros L has followed in its footsteps.
The head of marketing, sales and services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Andreas von Wallfeld, said: “When developing the Actros L, we placed particular focus on driver comfort, safety, connectivity and Total Cost of Ownership to create further benefits in these aspects for our customers and their drivers.
“Thanks to the close dialogue with customers, there is clear knowledge of what they want from a premium truck for both their company and their drivers. It’s precisely these requirements that we have addressed with the Actros L.”
