The new electric Volta Zero truck will be using sustainable composite exterior body panels for its new vehicle, the firm has revealed.
The manufacturer says that the largest composite manufacturing firm in Europe, CPC Group, will be developing and supplying recyclable and sustainable composite body panels.
The new Volta Zero was unveiled in September last year and will be the first commercial vehicle to use biodegradable resin composite panels.
The lightweight, natural, high-performance fibre material will be CO2 neutral over its lifetime. It also matches the weight and stiffness of carbon fibre but uses less CO2 to be produced.
Largest composite manufacturer in Europe
CPC Group has invested more than €300 million to become the largest composite manufacturer in Europe with 10 years of expertise.
Volta Trucks says its partnership with CPC Group makes ‘perfect sense’ with clear synergies for commercial and technological ambitions for the two companies.
Now, both firms will work towards developing innovative and new recyclable and sustainable composite materials that will be required for the truck makers long-term sales ambitions.
Volta Trucks says it is gearing up for the full-scale production of its all-electric Zero truck at the end of next year.
It will use state-of-the-art composite materials for the trim and body of the new truck.
‘Sustainability is a cornerstone of our company’s purpose’

“But for Volta Trucks, sustainability is much more than just tailpipe emissions. We take an environmental-first approach to all material sourcing to deliver on our mission of becoming the world’s most sustainable commercial vehicle manufacturer.”
‘Appointment of CPC Group as a strategic partner’
Essa Al-Saleh, the chief executive of Volta Trucks, said: “The appointment of CPC Group as a strategic partner is very significant. We are on a journey together, not just in commercial partnership but in technological development as we jointly create the innovative, recycled and natural composites of our sustainable future.
“As with our other strategic partners who are world-class experts in their field, working with CPC Group as Europe’s largest composites manufacturer gives us the strength, resources and confidence we need to deliver on our objectives.”
Franco Iorio, the chief executive of CPC, welcomed the deal and said: “Volta Trucks will change the mobility of vehicles within the world and I am personally glad to dedicate a considerable share of our new company capacity for this project.
“By 2023, CPC will have the biggest composite capacity within Europe, not only in terms of pressing but also for final machining, bonding and painting, and Volta Trucks will be an important part of the strategy.”
